Introduction:
In Luke 15 – Jesus shows with parables what it means to receive sinners and eat with them. See 15:2. Jesus words & actions with sinners are the love of God reaching out for the lost. In our lesson this evening, wish to focus on 15:24-31, where the parable of the prodigal son takes a significant turn. Jesus now addresses what it meant that the Pharisees and scribes were NOT eating with them. The older brother represents the Pharisees and scribes who stood aloof, stood with suspiction & contempt while Jesus ate with sinners & tax collectors. These passages go straight to the heart of Christianity. That is, a right relationship with the Father through faith.
